Trial Skills
Like many journeymen screenwriters, Craig Peters never quite kicked down Hollywood’s thick door. He did, however, win two national playwriting awards and blaze his way into the world of television and films with a number of dramatic, emotionally charged and bickering projects. His fervent dedication to his craft, combined with an ardent love of his family and a pair of sweet, supportive dogs, have kept him in the game.
He was a public defender and then he took a job at one of the oldest plaintiffs’ law firms in California, where he learned to handle wrongful death and mesothelioma cases on behalf of clients who had been wronged by the negligence and misfeasance of others. The switch from defending criminals to civil litigation was not an easy one, but it was a welcome challenge for Peters and an opportunity to hone his skills in a different legal arena.
While his practice now focuses on personal injury and class action litigation, he is still committed to helping those in need of help and justice. His clients have included individuals suffering from catastrophic injuries caused by defective medical devices and drugs, aviation crashes, dangerous conditions of property and the negligence of doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and other professionals.
Besides being an accomplished trial lawyer, Peters is also an active member of the community. He is a past president of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and has been invited to speak about his trials to law school students and various professional organizations.
He regularly lectures on a variety of topics including civility and professionalism in the practice of law, trial advocacy techniques and class action litigation. In addition, he has participated in a wide array of arbitrations and has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia. He has also been retained by other attorneys to serve as trial counsel in cases, including class action lawsuits. He is also a frequent contributor to Lawson Lundell’s Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Blog.
